Have the cold, dark, winter months got you down?  Are you to the point where you’re craving beautiful light, drop-dead gorgeous color, and heavenly scents wafting through the air ?  Well, have I got a treat for you!

Today was the opening of the annual orchid show at the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC… and, boy, did they ever have color and scent in spades.  There are literally thousands of blooms, from hundreds of different plants, consisting of every color under the rainbow.  Big blooms, little blooms, frilled blooms, sleek blooms… you name it, they have it.

And the price of admission?  Free.

Truly, it’s my favorite mid-winter event in DC.  But if you decide to go, get there early (the doors open at 10:00), otherwise it can get crowded later in the day.
