With all the recent news about Kilauea erupting, I thought I’d share one of the images we took of the same area almost a decade ago.
Sunsets on the water can be so satisfying.
The only real town of any size is 17 miles away. It’s six miles from the closest place to pick up mail.
One room. It does have heat and electricity, but no running water.
The last class of children to attend it was in 1942, and it only has one surviving student left alive today (it was a six-mile round-trip on foot when she was a first-grader in the mid-1930s).
But it’s well kept, loved, and used to this day. Read more here.
